PCR diagnostics of urogenital infections
With the current state of diagnostic methods, urogenital tract infections lack pathognomonic symptoms, have subtle and non-specific clinical manifestations and occur predominantly in chronic forms. This leads to the development of complications, such as pelvic inflammatory diseases, reproductive dysfunction, pregnancy complications, etc.
Hence, molecular biology techniques in general and PCR in particular are becoming ever more relevant in the diagnosis of STIs, allowing to:
- determine the etiology of the infectious process;
- control the course of infection;
- evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
High sensitivity and specificity makes PCR the method of choice for STI diagnostics.
