Enteric infections

Acute enteric infections (AEIs) are a group of gastrointestinal tract diseases, primarily of bacterial, viral, or unspecified origin. The most clinically and epidemiologically significant bacterial pathogens include Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC), and Campylobacter jejuni/coli. These bacteria are one of the main causes of infectious diarrhea worldwide and pose a serious threat to children, the elderly, and immunocompromised patients.
