Herpesvirus infections
Viruses of the herpesvirus family are abundant in nature. They are able to persist in the human body for life and cause diseases with a variety of clinical manifestations. The PCR-based method is particularly useful in an asymptomatic course of the disease caused by this virus family, given the absence of a clear clinical picture. PCR testing for herpesviruses should be mandatory for pregnant women, since the presence of herpesvirus in the genital tract (even in seropositive women who are immune to herpesviruses) drastically increases the risk of a fetal infection.
